Local Plan - what happens next

The "regulation 18" consultation for the redrafted Local Plan closed on Monday 3 June.

There will be no public news for some time, as Canterbury City Council read the responses then draw up a revised version of the plan for the start of next year.

The council's timeline is as follows:

  • June 2024 to December 2024: Analysis and consideration of consultation feedback, changes to the draft plan considered by the cross-party councillor working group 

  • Expected January 2025:  Canterbury City Council’s Cabinet and then Full Council to consider approval of revised draft plan for Regulation 19 consultation and submission to planning inspector 

  • Expected February/March 2025: Regulation 19 consultation (six weeks) 

  • Expected by 30 June 2025: Submission to Planning Inspectorate

  • Expected to begin Autumn 2025: Examination in Public
